A great many people, and especially newcomers to the internet, shake in their shoes at the thought of having to turn themselves into an ‘expert’, to succeed in their chosen field.

An expert is defined as someone who has unique knowledge, skill or training. Unfortunately today the internet abounds with many who purport themselves to be experts, but who really are just ‘copy and paste’ artists who have no, or very little, knowledge of their subject.

Position Yourself As An ‘Expert’ In Your Field

A great many people, and especially newcomers to the
internet, shake in their shoes at the thought of having to
turn themselves into an ‘expert’, to succeed in their chosen
field.

An expert is defined as someone who has unique knowledge,
skill or training. Unfortunately today the internet abounds
with many who purport themselves to be experts, but who
really are just ‘copy and paste’ artists who have no, or
very little, knowledge of their subject.

This does not however, mean that you have to know everything
there is to know on a subject before you can position
yourself as knowledgeable on the internet.

You do, however, have to be able to provide good accurate
and useful information on the subject in methods your
subscribers can understand. You need to build creditably
and trust in your customers and subscribers.

Some ways of doing this include:

1. Writing Articles

As people are turning more to the social media, articles
tend to be dismissed as time consuming and worthless.
However, nothing increases your authority any more than a
well researched and written article.

Write articles for your own website or blog frequently, and
be a guest writer on other sites as often as you can.
Guest writing is particularly good as it provides you with
perceived endorsement from the site owner.

2. Media Cover

Industry publications are always looking for content, so
offer to write for them. Also consider granting radio or
television interviews. Most radio stations have ‘free’
airtime they would like to fill up, and if you have a good
enough story, you will definitely be considered. These
methods will add greatly to your being perceived as a
trusted source within your field.

3. Hold a webinar

Use an hour long webinar to teach something useful to your
audience, either doing it alone, or along with other
achieved speakers within your niche. This again will
develop your credibility within your niche.

4. Testimonials

Before buying, shoppers like to hear from others who have
purchased before them. Testimonials go a long way to
allaying fears, and build confidence in you and your
products.

Posting any credentials and proof of professional or
business associations you belong to, will have a similar
effect.

5. Publish a book

Becoming a published author not only bestows respect within
your market, but also produces targeted traffic for a long
time into the future. A book does not have to be huge,
anything over about 50 pages is sufficient.

Nor do you have to write it yourself, if you don’t feel
able. But it must be accurate and well written. You can
always outsource the research and/or the actual writing, but
make sure you are going to be proud of having your name
associated with the finished product.
